Product Tags is a built-in X-Cart 5 module that can be used to narrow down search results either within the Product Filter Module or independently of it and hence can improve the oveall customer experience.

Please check that the Product Tags module is installed and enabled in the Addons section of the store admin area.


On the module settings page you can choose whether to display the Tags section in the storefront or not. If enabled, Product Tags will be displayed on every page of your store in a separate section.


To configure tags go to the Catalog -> Tags section of your store admin area.


To add a tag click on the ‘New tag’ button and Save changes.

Once a tag is created you can assign it to the products. One product can have an unlimited number of tags assigned to it. To assign a tag to a product go to the Catalog -> Products section, choose products from the search list either one by one or with a checkbox for bulk editing.

  • If you assign tags per product click on the product name, find the Tags field in the ‘Info’ tab of the products details page and choose tags from the list for the product there.


    Click ‘Update product’ to save the changes.

  • If you want to assign a tag to more than one product at a time use the Bulk Editing option.


    For this purpose check all products you want to edit on the product search page in the admin area (Catalog -> Products section), click the ‘Bulk edit all’ button and choose the ‘Categories and tags’ option.

    You’ll see a page, where you can change tags for all products in the list at once.


    Here you can add a new tag or choose from the existing ones, remove or replace tags for products.

Once the tags are set-up and assigned to the products, you can use them to narrow down the search results both in the admin area and in the customer storefront.

To search by tag in the admin area open the Catalog -> Products section, check the Tag check-box in the search settings and type the tag name.


In the store frontend click on a tag in the Tags section (if it’s enabled) to see the products with the tag. The Tags section will display all tags available in the store.


If tags are not shown as a separate section in the admin area, they will be included into the Product Filter’s block and you can use them there. The Product Filter’s section will display only the tags that are relevant for the category a customer is viewing.
